What is BlueSky authenticated Transfer Protocol (ADX)?

Bluesky was created to build a social protocol. In the spring, we released “ADX,” the very first iteration of the protocol. Over the summer we improved and simplified ADX’s design, and today we’re sharing a preview of what’s to come. ADX is now the “Authenticated Transfer Protocol” — or, more simply, the “AT Protocol.”

Users are identified by domain names on the AT Protocol. These domains map to cryptographic URLs which secure the user's account and its data.

Will BlueSky's adX be a semi-public project?

It’s one of the most substantive windows into Bluesky’s workings since the project was conceived in 2019 and formally incorporated in early 2022. Bluesky CEO Jay Graber writes that ADX will be the start of a semi-public development process.
